When was the last time you prayed? This morning? Yester night? Last Sunday at church? Or maybe, you can’t remember. No, I’m not here to judge you. I just want to have an honest conversation with you. I want to get a little bit deeper with you concerning our spirituality. I’ll share some of my thoughts and experiences on prayer and I do hope you share some of yours in the comments.
My prayer life isn’t perfect. Sometimes laziness, procrastination and/or indifference towards God keeps me from praying. Sometimes I just don’t have the words to say to God. I could be frustrated or I just don’t understand why things won’t go my way. So I stay away from prayer.
And then there’re the days when I’m so conscious of the Spirit within me , start off with some beautiful worship music, next minute I’m on my knees pouring my heart out to Jesus. It doesn’t matter how my day went. I just pour it out and place it at the feet of Jesus. He can handle it all. I feel a great load off my shoulders and the void left is filled with Peace. And when I get up, I feel like a warrior. I feel powerful. Like I have already won. And all I say , in most moments, is, Thank You Jesus.
I wish and I’m working on making sure that every day can be like that. I know it can always be like that, but sure requires a lot of commitment.
I view my relationship with God like some sort of marriage or just a committed relationship. A relationship that requires constant communication for it flourish. And one of the best ways to communicate with God is through Prayer. That time when we get to have an honest conversation with God. that time when you’re not afraid of judgment, no shame, no mincing of words. That moment when you get spiritually naked.
That even though you’ve been feeling confined, don’t have someone you can fully open up to about how you truly feel, felt judged, God says,” Come as you are. Talk to me my child. I have and will always love you.” When was the last time you felt that free? When was the last time you felt listened to? When Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11;28), He was calling us to prayer. To lay down our needs, fears, worries and never forgetting gratitude at His feet.
No matter how frustrated you may feel, confused, indifferent, lost you may feel, have that honest conversation with God. Things shall become clearer, lighter, your heart softer and you feel happier. That I can promise you.
Say you were to write a letter to God, what would you say to Him?
TASK: write an honest letter to God. It may be hard for you to speak them out loud or you might forget some things. You could do this on paper ( journal) or your phone diary. Whatever feels comfortable for you. Starting off with my favorite worship songs sort off softens me up and causes the spirit to rise within me e.g. fill me up by Tasha Cobbs.
This is the first of the 4-part POWER OF PRAYER blog series. Next Thursday, watch out for the 2nd part; WHY PRAY?
