There are seasons in life when our relationship with God just feels ‘meh’. When spending time with Him feels more like a chore than something we really want. We pray occasionally and going to church feels like just a routine.

When you no longer depend on His Wisdom because your faith is weak and don’t really trust in God’s love and care. Yes, you believe in God but can’t remember the last time you opened your Bible. You start to become insensitive about sin and the things that used to excite you about knowing and loving God no longer do. Have you been there? At a point where your relationship with God feels lukewarm?

Is your relationship with God lukewarm?

I know I have; a couple of times. To be honest, it isn’t a great place to be in . As you may know, there’s a void in each one of us that can only be filled by God and as I read recently, our hearts are restless until they find their rest in God. Sometimes our relationship with God may go from being strong to lukewarm because;

  • We get caught in other activities in our lives and live little or no time to spend with God.
  • Something happens in our lives that makes us doubt God’s love and care

But your relationship with God doesn’t have to remain lukewarm.

As Revelation 3:15-16 says,”I know what you have done; I know that you are neither cold nor hot. How I wish you were either one or the other! But because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I am going to spit you out of my mouth!”

God desires that each one of us has a strong relationship with Him. It’s not reserved for only those on the pulpits. He wants to have an intimate relationship with each one of His children and for us to totally trust and believe in Him and live fully for Him with both our feet in.

So how can we change our relationship with God from lukewarm to being strong?

1.Pour your heart out to God .

When our relationship with God feels lukewarm, most times there are unspoken words and feelings that we may have been tucked away. During this period, you may also find it hard to pray.

What has worked for me is to simply speak my mind and heart to God without fear or limitations. This could be through speech or writing, whichever works for you. This really helps one see what’s has created that wedge between you and God, things you may not have been really aware of.

2.Get yourself together and go back to the things that used to draw you closer to God

Sometimes we depend too much on our emotions to influence us to spend more time with God but doesn’t happen often. As Christians, our spirits should be stronger than our flesh. So that means you’re gonna open your Bible and/ or kneel down and pray even if you don’t feel like it. And once you decide to do that, you ask God to change your heart to desire to Know and love Him more. And you never know, you could stumble on a verse that helps you understand things better and draws you closer to Him.

It could even be as simple as listening to a song that you love and has drawn you closer to Him before.

3. Talk to someone about it.

Sometimes the other person and can see and understand things that we don’t. They may see things from a better perspective and help you understand what’s really going on and know the next step to take.

So find someone you can trust with your spiritual affairs and share your heart about why you don’t feel as close to God as you used to.

4. Focus less on yourself

Sometimes we may drift away from God because we may have fallen in sin and not feel like good enough Christians. We put too much pressure on ourselves. But sometimes doing things like works of Charity, serving in church can open our minds on God’s love and mercy and draw us back to Him.

5.Switch up your routine

Sometimes spending time with God can feel like a routine because you’re used to doing the same old things. Maybe instead of praying in your house you can take a walk as you pray. Or join some other Christians in Worship. Instead of randomly opening your Bible to get your daily Bible verse, get a devotional. This makes it more exciting to spend time with Him and creates a greater desire to know Him.

I hope the above tips are helpful to you and even if you don’t manage to implement all of them, you can try atleast one like the first one on pouring your heart out to God. It could be titled, A Letter to God…

That’s all for today. Got more tips to share or something on your mind? Kindly share with me in the comments.

Stay blessed 😊💕
