When I did a survey about two weeks ago, most people requested that I share more on how to grow your relationship with God in the spirituality category.

So today I’m going to share with you four short and sweet tips on how to grow your relationship with God, especially if you are someone in the early stages of doing that.

I believe that most of us Christians desire to grow a strong relationship with God, but sometimes we just don’t know how to go about it. Yes we believe in God. Yes we do go to church. We know a couple of Bible verses and do pray, once in a while. Yet, our hearts yearn for more. We wanna feel closer to God. We wanna love Him better and know , if not understand, more of His Word.

So today I’m going to share four basic but very important tips on how to take a step further in your faith journey.

1.Have some Quiet Time with God.

My friend simply calls it QT. This is time you take out of your day to read the Bible, learn something from it, see how it applies to your life and you also pray. There’s no rigid structure on how to go about it; the goal is to simply know God more, through His Word and communicate with Him. You could start off with a worship song (to get you in the mood) or prayer. You choose.

You may ask, but Julie, how do I go about it? Which book of the Bible do I open?

Well, if you’re Catholic like me, you could read the daily Bible readings. I normally get them via email from the Good News Ministries.

If not, you can also check out the YouVersion Bible app which has a daily Bible verse plus so many Bible Study plans depending on what you wanna learn or improve in your own life. These plans are really great as they help you stay consistent with your Bible reading during your week/month/year.

Incase you have a hardcopy daily devotional, that’s great too.

Remember, the goal is to know God more through His Word which is food for our souls.

To be honest, I personally don’t manage to read the Bible daily but my moods and spiritual strength is normally way better when I start my day with some QT.

If you feel you don’t have much time to do your Bible study, figure out how to make time. Wake up earlier if need be. Not because you feel forced to but because you want to know more God more and hear from Him. Let your spirit be stronger than your flesh

2.Go to church and find yourself a community.

Some people ask, why do I really need to go to church? Can’t I just stay home and talk to my God? I mean, it’s a personal relationship between Him and I!

Well, that’s partly true. You have a personal relationship with God. But I can’t stress enough about the importance of community. We need one another to grow in faith.

First and foremost, there’s a way the preacher will interpret the readings and deliver a message given to Him that we may not have the annointing to do so.

Secondly, iron sharpens iron. There’s something God could be teaching me right now that you may need to now learn from me. And vice versa. And that can only happen when we come together as a community.

Last but not least, as Jesus said, where two or three gather in my name, there I will be.

Actually, there are so many reasons why you should go to church. There are so many ways you can serve others in church, other than staying home and , sorry to say, being selfish with your gifts.

And need I mention, no church community is perfect. Most will have some hitches here and there and more often than not, you won’t solve much by running away. In any way you can, be part of the solution. Prayer is one of the tools to do that.

But if you really feel the need to change Church, please speak with your spiritual mentor if you have one and most importantly ask for God’s guidance about the issue. He will show you the right direction to take.

3. Find materials that help you grow in faith.

Be it the music you listen to, books, YouTube videos, blogs, podcasts or social media pages. In this age, we are spoilt for choice.

Careful though, since there’re a lot of counterfeits out there.Pray for the spirit of discernment to know what is true or false.Man is to error and some people may share the wrong message knowingly or unknowingly.

I have personally learnt to take the Word of God as my primary source of knowledge of Him. What I hear from others is just secondary but also important if it’s in line with His Word.

They help our knowledge of Him get deeper and our relationship with Him to grow. They also act as good substitutes for what was drawing us away from Him.

4.Go out there and practice what you learn

Now, it’s so easy to be a good Christian when you are just in your room but once you step your foot outside is when the rubber meets the road.

You will be tested. Will you remember to control your anger? Will you trust in God, have faith and not wallow in worry when things don’t go your way?

I can honestly tell you that this is the hardest part for me. I can get worried so easily but I’m training myself to really believe to the core that God is always there for me, to protect, provide and do much more.

However, don’t be so hard on yourself when you’re unable to always practice what you read in the Bible. The spiritual muscle needs to be exercised regularly for it to become strong. Extend grace to yourself but also be intentional about doing what is right. Seek the Holy Spirit to help you do what is right.

Actually, intentionality is one of the most essential values in growing your relationship. It won’t just happen in a snap of a finger. You’ve got to be intentional about reading the word of God, prayer, joining a community and practicing what you learn.

You will notice how you understand the ways of God better, you can hear from Him and desire deeply to do the right thing and you never know, you might inspire someone else to give their lives to Jesus Christ.

So those are the few steps helped me grow my relationship with God and I hope they will be helpful to you too. If you’ve got more points, kindly share them with us in the comments.

Have a blessed day💕
